On this day celebrating freedom here in the US, it’s always wise to reflect on what freedom actually is.
True freedom is found in discovering or remembering who you are, not who you’ve been told you are by families, cultures, religions, etc, all of our conditioning. It is remembering your face before you were born, which will still be your face when you die.
To do this, it is necessary to move beyond everything we have ever known. We must stand on the precipice of death to understand our purpose in life. And at that moment, you will be utterly amazed at just how quickly you’ll replay over and over every moment in your life, attempting to continue to grasp onto what you know, every moment of your life…………………………….And then what?
Who will you be, how will you truly know yourself when every memory you have vanished, when all of your regrets can no longer be pondered, when you have no fantasies to embrace……………..what will you think of when your brain has no thoughts to think?
What will come to you depends on how much you are able to surrender.
Ask yourself, just how much of yourself you’re willing to surrender. It has taken me almost a lifetime to know that my answer is everything, and it is not a sacrifice (although it is), it is an immense joy that we step into when we finally completely just let go.
This is what the Freedom From the Known course is for. It is a series of discussions and meditations artfully designed to assist you in surrendering all of your old and walking into the Present Moment, which is always New.
